While reading fellow Weblog and Wiki classmate postings, Heilyeah: Weekly Summary and Digital Artifact,  I was curiously drawn to the idea that he took the time to try and create a map of how information spreads. If anyone has started to think about the concept, of how everything is connected by a single strained and can not be separated from each of the other parts, your mind can quickly find itself in an overwhelming state.

Last semester, I was teaching a lesson on writing profiles in a college writing class. I wanted the students to think outside of the box and look at the world from a different vantage point. I was looking for interesting individuals with a fresh perspective…came across a TED Talk by R. Luke DuBois: Insightful human portraits made from data.

Thus the “Insightful Human Portrait” Discussion Board Assignment was born. Here is the discussion board assignment:

Watch the Ted Talks video Insightful Human Portraits

You have been asked to write a profile about R. Luke DuBois

What approach, focus or angle would you use for this profile?

If you could ask him two questions, what would they be?

Write an original post describing the approach or focus you would use in 125-175 words. Finish posting with the two questions you would ask.

Respond to three classmate postings with a minimum of 50 words.
